I don't ever remember people coming into my high school and letting us know about the classes and programs that the community college is offering, let alone anything about filipino american studies. In the high schools they focus more on U.S. history and touch very little on other topics. In my "Bayan" english class, we are attempting to reach out and inform the high school students that Southwestern College "SWC" offer english classes with the emphasis of filipino american studies. As well as filipino history and learning tagalog as a language. My Group decided to reach out to the high schools because we felt they should have the privilege and knowledge to learn about this class. Our group felt if we were presented with this information when we were in high school we would be very interested in coming to SWC and taking this class.
Our Goal is to target High schools with a fairly big population of filipino americans, but also students with at least a slight interest in learning about filipino americans in a classroom. After the high schools are chosen, we would need to find a contact to a teacher or advisor that is in charge with a filipino american club or after school program. The next step is to compile information and work to be put together and presented to the students. Once that is done we will send our proposal to the teacher or advisor and try to set up a date and time we could come over and present to the kids. Depending how we want to show our presentation to them will deeply impact the success of our efforts and message. If we can get all of them interested in the class or even just one person, i think we have done our job to reach out to the filipino american community. I know if they do take this class it will be an experience they will never forget.

I can't Serenade you.....But listen to this!!
![]() |
So basically what inspired me to create this post is because some girls like to be serenaded or have their prince charming carry them off into the sunset and feed them chocolate and surprise them with flowers. When my female friends tell me all this and say i wish somebody would do that for me <3 I counter with i can't sing or bring you chocolate and flowers, nor afford to ride off in a cinderella horse carrige, but i can make you a Mixtape with love songs that will say everything that i feel and want to express to you.
Now they have something that will stay with them forever or untill their hard drive or Laptop crashes. ^_^.v haha
I had a Dream that we are NOBODY'S NIGGERS!

Motivation: What Drives Us?
Being a DJ and owning my own small business i thought i had motivation squared away, but a couple of days ago i questioned what is motivation to me. I thought i knew what makes me motivated, but after watching this video by RSA titled "Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us" changed everything. I always thought that money makes the world go round and it probably does to most people. The video states that when people are asked to do simple straight forward physical task, for instance running the longest distance or eating the most hotdogs in 20 minutes, they will perform it to the best of their ability if the money is right. So pretty much the better you perform the more money you will get, but on the flip side, what happens when money is not an issue. What i mean by that is, what if the money is already there and it doesn't drive them perform better work. The Monetary incentive is gone. What will motivate them to go above and beyond? In the video they mentioned three things to motivate the non-money motivated people, they were autonomy, mastery, and purpose. Autonomy is being able to be your own boss and do things your way and mastery is plainly trying to be the best at what you do. Lastly purpose is what you strive to accomplish and obtaining your goal.
After watching the video my whole mindset changed about what motivates me and where i get my drive from. I think money still plays a big part in my motivation to perform well at each gig and it should, because i believe im only remembered for my last event and not the ones before it or the upcoming ones. The fact that i am my own boss im always on autonomy mode. I always strive to be the best at what i do, and determine to get better each day. My purpose and goal is to make others feel the happiness and excitement i have when im Djing and make sure they have fun, because if they don't then i feel like im not doing my job and i have failed them and myself.
